After dredging and purposely leaving a working ledge to drive the new bulkhead into, once we complete the new bulkhead will then excavate the rest of the ledge and use it for the final backfilling of the bulkhead project.
Spoils need to be dried, turned, dried again and only then can then be used for finished backfill. It’s the proper process for this type of work. The cove is now 8′ wider and 5′ deeper on average. Still we have a LOT more dredging to do…. once the new bulkhead is completed.
6×6 full dimensional rough hewn timber pilings are installed first, then the 3×8 rough hewn full dimensional timber stringers are installed behind them, and finally the sheet-piling is driven, with a penetration average of between 5 and 6′ we are safe from future dredging failure.
The finished bulkhead is then covered with erosion cloth liner and a full dimensional 2×6 timber is installed to hold it in place, and the cloth is folded three times behind it. The wall is then held back every piling has a tieback rod drilled through it and anchored to a dead-man post anchor
